Requirements of Major Research Sponsors

A distinction must be made between cost sharing that is required by Congress, an agency, or a program officer and what is frequently offered by investigators in hope of persuading peer reviewers or sponsor staff to select their project for support. In addition, Federal Cost Accounting Standards require that most cost sharing, whether required or offered, be auditable.

The necessity to conserve University resources, while working to garner adequate support for University activities, suggests that careful attention be given to cost-sharing commitments.

Please inform the appropriate PR of any new information about sponsor requirements or subtleties learned in negotiation or participation in a peer review.
