Graduate Student Awards for the Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students: 2010

The program is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) for DOE and NSF.

As a member of the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), the University of Michigan may submit up to four nominations (one in each of the pathways described below) for Ph.D. students to attend the Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany, June 27 Š July 2, 2010. U-M may use any or all pathways. However, only one nomination can be submitted for a given pathway from each university.

The four pathways for nominations are

  1. . Students sponsored/working on/supported by projects sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC);
  2. . Students sponsored/working on/supported by projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (NSF-MPS);
  3. . Students sponsored/working on/supported by projects sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, an institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH-NIGMS); and
  4. . Students who are attending an ORAU member institution and working on a research project funded by a federal agency.

Students nominated to participate in this program must:

If you have a student that you would like to have considered, please send the following to OVPR by 5:00 pm EDT on Friday, October 11, 2009, electronically in a single file in pdf format:

  1. Completed nomination form (Select appropriate pathway nomination form, available at: http://www.orau.org/lindau/apply/nom-form.shtml)
  2. One page personal resume of the applicant
  3. Essay of no more than one page written by the applicant describing why participation in the Lindau meeting is important for the applicantÕs graduate education; and
  4. Summary of the applicantÕs support history (GSI, GSRA, etc., including the source of funding for GSRA support).
